Stuff to do

When we do a new event – I want

  • Thumbnail to appear on front page with the excerpt – and the big image appear with the article…. I can do that but its the formatting that is the issue.
  • Get rid of the “commenting for this article is closed” in full event article.

Formatting the resources page – How bout set boxes where info can go (table grids?) – I hear tables are evil and everything should be done in css – but IE has issues with certain CSS, whereas tables are apparently solid.) – But if we have different cells I’d like them to work like different articles – you know, you write and choose which cell it goes into and then it uses css as its formatting.

Bout time I did something……

‘ve updated a few things on the LMAP site…. and deleted a couple of the links. Hope that’s OK. I’ll keep doing a few more things over the next few days when I have a chance. I’m basically copying things from the parish web PDF.

I think the home page is good with the mission and vision statements but the sidebar makes the page too long. When you scroll down there is nothing in the main part of the page. Can I get rid of the tools, Browse (what does that do?) and the Feeds links? I know RSS and Atom are cool but for the moment I don’t think it’s needed. Less is more and all that. Streamlined. Tell me to “go jump you luddite” if you like.

I’m also thinking of putting the youth stuff under “Ministry”… what’ya think?

Dev Site

So I’m fidling around with the dev site… hope you don’t mind. BTW good work loading up all the stuff from the monthly newsletter on the live site. You truely are the hairy hand.

The tabs across the top… I think we can combine “Contact” and “Staff” to “Contacts” or something like that. There could be a listing of the staff and then under an email field or just a link to the staff’s email addresses.

Then… we could put a new tab called “Community” or “Church Community” or “Weekly Events” or “You know, regular, weekly during school term anyway, stuff for oldies, youth, kids, single people and that”…. I hope the hairy hand is looking favourably on me messing with stuff.

Ditching that banner

I have decided to not use the logo as the banner. After spending a goodly amount of time with photoshop and the logo I can’t get it looking right. Just looks cheap and unprofessional. I have it as a small image in the sidebar and will just use nice mountains type images for the banners. The one there at the moment is called new growth (for now). Bit black – so I’ll investigate other images.

The banner image on the dev site

Well…. I followed the instrauctions and created a baner image in photoshop that is 806×189 pixels. But it doesn’t flipping fit.
I’ll have to work on it some more.

Listening to arcade fire – no cars go. One of those songs that we will remember in 30 years. Just gloriuos

So I bin bizzy

Like I haven’t been… you know…
Anyways – I contacted Neil and we have a development site that we can work on.
http://www.dev.lmap.org.au
I have a nice theme which was ported from wordpress called mistylook (flip … I think it is the one I use here)… but I also installed the mcw_templates plugn so we should be able to change templates / themes on the fly.
We also have a webmaster email address and I have worked on a new banner image – maybe a thing we can change for different sections .. subtle but blatant like.
The new banner?

Using Tables in txp

I use tables a bit. in txp I use |. |. |. | to determine the number of columns.

In the Parish newsletter article I have all this…

Note – this is a 2 column table. Important. At the end of the first, 3rd, 5th etc entries I have a pipe – then the next entry starts straight away. But, at the end of the 2nd, 4th, 6th etc entries I have a pipe, then return – and then the new entry starts. A bit weird when this is a table – but it is working.

BTW … to make things a little clearer – this is what one entry looks like in the above example.

Updates

Did some changes around the site… got rid of the old rosters from the member section (just hid them) and updated the email contacts in there as well.

Added bold to the Services section to make the different sites stand out a bit more.

There was some weird repeated text in the  Easter Egg Craft bit…

Jays

I downloaded the vdh_flickr plugin – I followed directions in the help – and made a section called gallery. It is unlinked, so to view it you need to go to http://www.lmap.org.au/gallery.
But the message I get is – Failed to connect to flickr.com!
Might be some evil config thing somewhere.
